Discovering Far Niente Winery

Wines Rooted in Tradition and Intention

Driving into Far Niente sets the stage for a memorable visit. A tree-lined road gives way to green vineyards, manicured gardens, and peaceful ponds with fountains. The setting is striking, and the warm hospitality makes you feel instantly welcome. From our first steps onto the estate, it was clear the team takes pride in being part of something special. Still family-run, Far Niente has fostered a strong sense of connection among the staff, and it shows in how they speak about the winery’s culture and community.

We tasted through a beautiful lineup of wines, each paired with cheese selected to complement and highlight the wine’s character. As we sipped the 2023 Far Niente Chardonnay from Coombsville—paired with Toma from Point Reyes Farmstead—we heard about the long history of the winery, their dedication to sustainability, and their pursuit of excellence in winemaking.

The family behind Far Niente also owns five other wineries, including Nickel & Nickel. We got a special taste of the 2018 Nickel & Nickel Cabernet, which was a standout. And, we finished our time off with Dolce, the only late-harvest white wine in the U.S. that is made in the Sauternes style.

A bonus highlight: tasting among a collection of vintage cars, which is a nod to the founder’s passion and another layer of personality that makes this place unique.

Far Niente is also a supporter of Family House, a non-profit that provides free housing for families with children undergoing treatment for life-threatening diseases at UCSF Benioff Hospital in San Francisco. They will be pouring at this year’s Cabernet for Connoisseurs event to raise money for this important cause. A great opportunity to experience their wines in person.

And if you’re planning a trip to Napa, a visit to this historic estate is well worth your time. Find out how to reserve a tasting at farniente.com.
